One of our case studies deals with a site in the former GDR (East Germany), which was contaminated with trichloroethane.
I asked Dr Claus Schumacher (one of the Authors) for feedback on current German techniques for the disposal of contaminated perchloroethylene and the method of destruction or neutralization.
He tells me that at present there does not appear to be alot going on in this area in Germany. Currently it seems the only disposal technique is high temperature incineration (as the Germans are paranoid about Dioxins).
The only available high temperature incinerators are working flat out - but on the disposal of Chemical Warfare Agents! As a result there is not much spare capacity for the disposal of ordinary contaminated perchloroethylenes.
